19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on court had led some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour title, took control to force a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game chances in a close final set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
